4 December 2023 - Free Expert Session #5: Aligning Trust and Safety
Trust is the foundation of any healthy and successful organization. When employees feel that they can trust their colleagues and superiors, they are more likely to collaborate, communicate openly, and take risks that can drive safety, innovation and growth.
On the other hand, safety is equally important for a workplace to function effectively. When employees feel physically, socially, and emotionally safe, they are more likely to focus on their work, be productive, and stay with the company for longer periods of time. A safe workplace is also less likely to experience accidents or incidents that could harm employees or damage the company's assets and reputation.
Join Sjaak Pappe, Ralf van Haastregt and guest speaker Paulo Finuras, Guest Associate Professor of Organizational Behaviour at ISG – Lisbon Business & Economics School, for this expert session.

16 June 2023 - SCARA Product Launch
Friday, June 16, the time had come to tell the world during a sunny meeting with partners (see photo). After a journey of discovery that started on a small scale in 2019, followed by years of research and development, testing in pilots and assignments, many conversations with a customer panel and during feedback sessions with (former and potential) customers, interested parties, fellow advisors, and potential (foreign) business partners, we are proud to announce the following:
Our Safe Culture Analysis and Risk Assessment (SCARA) is ready to be shared widely with the rest of the world.
This quantitative research method identifies the potential risks and enablers on the following dimensions:
1. Team
2. Leadership
3. Stakeholders
4. Compliance
5. Communications
Also visible:
• Factors that enable improvement of safety.
• Willingness to change.

22 June 2023 - Free Expert Session #3: Where the BowTie Risk Model meets Culture
In this joint webinar, Coconut Blue and Resilium will explain where the formal world of risk management meets the informal world of human factors and (organizational) culture.
BowTies are commonly used to describe Major Hazard Accident scenarios. The model graphically shows how control over a process can be lost and which control measures (i.e. ‘barriers) can be taken to prevent or mitigate those undesired outcomes. Barriers can be seen as systems comprised of technical, behavioral and organizational elements. In order for a control to function optimally, all of these elements must be effective and work in unison. Each of the different elements have unique ‘performance influencing factors’. For example, hardware elements may be subject to wear and tear, whereas the behavioral elements may be influenced by how people perceive the work and procedures (read culture) etc.
Coconut Blue is able to identify with its SCARA* measurements how human and (organization) cultural aspects impact those “performance influencing factors”, both from a risk as well as a resilience point of view.
In this webinar we will briefly explain the BowTie principle, barrier management and the visualization of human and (organization) cultural aspects on a BowTie diagram.

16 March 2023 - Free Expert Session #1: The consequences of National cultures for safety
National cultural values are unchangeable, but practices change. So, it is essential you understand in what situations people feel emotionally most comfortable. That will enable safety best. We use Hofstede’s 6D Model as framework to explain the basics of how safe behaviour best can be facilitated in the different cultures of the world.
Effective cross-cultural safety management leads to
- fewer incidents and accidents
- less stressed workers
workers that speak-up within the common approach of the cultural context
higher productivity
better quality solutions
The biggest problem is that we try to implement universal solutions to safety management around the world.
